Google Ads for healthcare in 2026 is a policy-and-certification problem before it is a bidding problem. Some categories cannot advertise until LegitScript or another certification is in place; personalized-health copy, condition-based remarketing, unproven claims, and mismatched landing pages get disapproved. Catalyze Care publishes paid ads management at $2,500/month (media separate). Reports show spend and booked-inquiry fields from your intake. First public date: August 26, 2026. Account structure: Google Ads account structure for healthcare practices.
In one sentenceConfirm certification, write policy-safe copy, and measure conversions without PHI before you scale spend, disapprovals kill launches more often than bids.
We've audited dozens of healthcare ad accounts. Most of the ones that "don't work" never had a chance: the account was suspended, the ads were disapproved, or the landing page tripped a policy before the first click. Here's how to avoid that.
What requires certification
Google's Healthcare and Medicines policy requires third-party certification before certain categories can advertise at all:
- Addiction treatment services (US and Canada): LegitScript certification. Required since 2018, enforced strictly.
- Online pharmacies and prescription drug sales: LegitScript or NABP certification.
- Telemedicine and telehealth providers in the US and several other countries: LegitScript certification is required in a growing set of markets. If your practice prescribes online, assume you need it.
- Health insurance: Google's own certification, with an additional layer for ACA-compliant plans.
For most general healthcare services (therapy without prescribing, physical therapy, speech therapy, dental, specialty clinics), no separate certification is required beyond standard advertiser verification. But the line is where prescribing starts. A behavioral health practice that advertises therapy is in one category; one that advertises medication management is often in another.
LegitScript certification takes weeks and requires documentation of licenses, physical location, and clinical oversight. Start it before you build the campaign.
The disapprovals that kill launches
Personalized health targeting. Ad copy that implies knowledge of the user's condition ("your anxiety," "your child's speech delay") violates the personalized advertising policy. Rewrite to describe the service, not the reader. "Speech therapy for children with speech delays" is fine. "Is your child behind?" often isn't.
Remarketing and Customer Match on health conditions. You can't build audiences based on health conditions or treatments. Remarketing lists from a landing page about a specific condition are restricted. Plan on first-party data strategies that don't segment by condition.
Unproven claims. "Cure," "guaranteed," outcome percentages without substantiation. Google disapproves these and so does the FTC.
Restricted drug terms. Naming prescription medications in keywords, ad copy, or landing pages (or within a few clicks of the landing page) requires certification. Uncertified advertisers need standalone landing pages that don't mention them.
Destination problems. Landing pages that don't match the ad, that have broken forms, that lack a privacy policy, or that include restricted content elsewhere on the site.
Business verification. Google's advertiser verification requires documentation. Incomplete verification limits or pauses serving.
The 2026 changes worth knowing
Google reintroduced limited healthcare professional targeting for eligible B2B health advertisers, which opens a channel for practices and vendors that market to clinicians. Google also tightened requirements for subscription-based health offerings in Shopping campaigns. And the alignment with HHS guidance on tracking pixels, which began in 2024, continues to shape what you can measure on your own site.
The launch checklist
- Confirm whether your service category requires LegitScript or other certification; if so, apply first.
- Complete Google advertiser verification.
- Build landing pages that describe services, avoid personalized health language, and carry a privacy policy and licensing disclosures.
- Write ad copy against the policy, not against the competitor's ad you screenshotted (theirs may be running on borrowed time).
- Set up conversion tracking that doesn't transmit PHI.
- Launch small, watch the policy tab daily for the first two weeks, and fix disapprovals within hours.
If you get suspended
Appeals work only when the underlying issue is fixed and documented. Reinstatement typically takes weeks, not days, and involves legal and compliance work. A suspension on a practice that depends on paid search for census is a serious event. Prevention is much cheaper.
